Building & BaLA Initiatives
The Building as Learning Aid (BaLA) initiative is an innovative concept aimed at enhancing the quality of education by creating child-friendly and fun-based physical environments within school infrastructure. Here are the key points about BaLA in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVS):
Objective:
BaLA focuses on developing the entire physical space of schools (both indoor and outdoor) as a valuable learning resource.
It aims to holistically plan and utilize school infrastructure to enhance the teaching-learning process.
Implementation:
BaLA is implemented across all KVS schools in India with support from UNICEF.
It incorporates ideas of activity-based learning, child-friendliness, and inclusivity for children with special needs (CWSN).
Approach:
BaLA assumes that the architecture of a school can contribute significantly to effective teaching and learning.
It operates at two levels:
Developing Spaces: Creating varied teaching-learning situations in spaces like classrooms, corridors, steps, outdoor areas, etc.
Built Elements: Using elements like floors, walls, windows, doors, ceilings, platforms, and furniture as teaching aids.
In summary, BaLA transforms school spaces into dynamic learning environments, fostering creativity and engagement among students.
